Golfpark Strelasund one of the Top Golf Resorts in Northern Germany

Strelasund

Ten years after its foundation on an old Prussian country estate close to the Baltic Sea,  Golfpark Strelasund in Western Pomerania, has two 18 hole championship courses, two hotels, a spa and a country pub.

Golfpark Strelasund is close to the Hanseatic cities of Stralsund and Greifswald and the islands of Rügen and Usedom. It can be easily reached by car via the autobahn (highway) or by flight or ferry to Rostock, both  a 50-minute-drive from the resort.

Twenty percent of the resort guests come from Scandinavia, especially from Sweden which is hardly surprising since this area was once known as Swedish Pommerania.

The golfpark got its name from the Forth of Strelasund, which divides the island of Rügen from the mainland.

Canadian design in Strelasund

Far away from the humdrum of big cities Canadian golf course architect David Krause designed two golf courses in the village of Kaschow. Two courses different in style, but playable and challenging for golfers of all levels.

Opened in 2007 the championship course Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers a trip through this East German state. Each hole is named after typical parts of the region like Rügen, Fishland-Darß-Zingst or Müritz.

All holes of the Insel Clourse, which opened in 2012, derive their names from the islands of the Forth of Strelasund. LIke Hiddensee, Zudar or Greifswalder Oie.

Both courses take full advantage of the varied landscape of the area. After the round golfers can enjoy a wonderful view from the clubhouse over the hole No. 1 and the island green Rügen of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern course.

Guests can hone their game on a driving range with a spacious short game practice area and at a golf academy lead by a PGA professional.

The story of Golfresort Strelasund began around the start of the new century when the entrepreneurial family Bremer from Hamburg bought the country estate. From the beginning the family planned to build a state of the art golf resort.

From the old farm and residential buildings only the old tenant house had survived the storms of time. The old tenant house, vacant since 2002, was carefully restored so the old building fabric could be preserved.

In 2006 a small hotel with 16 individually styled rooms opened its doors located only a par 3 from the golf course. Hotel and golf course proved to be a hit so a new wellness hotel with 31 single- and double rooms with a spacious spa area, different saunas, swimming pool and rooms for massages and cosmetic treatments was added in May 2009. After finishing the Insel Course in 2012 eight comfortable furnished vacation homes and eight holiday flats were built only a par 5 away from the golf course.

Adjacent and directly connected to the clubhouse the old country pub Frettwurst offers breakfast and fresh regional cuisine all day long.

Until the 1950s the pub was run by Lebrecht Frettwurst and his sisters Klara and Anna. It used to be a popular destination for a day out for the village people of Kaschow. With Klaras Tanzhalle (dancing hall) and Rademachers Feierscheune (celebration barn) it also offers space for larger groups.

With Hanseatischer Golfclub Greifswald another nine holes can be played only 25 minutes away. However, even the keenest of golfers should find the time to explore  the area around Golfpark Strelasund, especially the old Hanseatic towns of Stralsund and  Greifswald.
