Heritage Resorts & Golf in Bel Ombre, Mauritius, has been included in GOLF’s newly released Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World, adding another international distinction to the Indian Ocean’s only 45-hole golf destination.
Heritage Resorts & Golf has been named in GOLF’s newly released Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World, according to the Mauritius resort group. The recognition places the Bel Ombre estate’s two contrasting championship courses at the centre of the announcement: La Réserve Golf Links and Le Château Golf Course.
Set on Mauritius’ south-west coast, the resort combines golf with accommodation at Heritage Le Telfair, Heritage Awali and Heritage The Villas. It also has a Leadbetter Golf Academy, while both principal courses have hosted DP World Tour competition.
Two very different rounds
The newer of the pair, La Réserve Golf Links, opened in December 2023. Co-designed by 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and architect Peter Matkovich, it was built on former sugar-cane land beside the UNESCO-designated Bel Ombre Biosphere Reserve.
Heritage says the course was developed with native grasses to create rolling grassland and support biodiversity, and that it has achieved GEO Certified Development status. The club describes La Réserve as the Indian Ocean’s first contemporary links course; its terrain and coastal setting provide a marked contrast to Le Château.
Le Château Golf Course, meanwhile, is the established layout on the estate. Its fairways run through landscaped grounds around the 19th-century Château de Bel Ombre, with lakes, streams and mature trees part of its character. Together with the resort’s nine-hole par-three course, the two 18-hole courses make up the destination’s 45-hole offering.
A recognition for the wider estate
In announcing the list, GOLF said that contemporary golf travellers are seeking more than a tee time, looking instead for distinctive experiences. For Heritage, the inclusion is a recognition of the combined appeal of its golf, setting and resort stay.

For travelling golfers, the attraction is principally the chance to play two deliberately different courses without leaving the Bel Ombre estate: a newer, links-inspired design at La Réserve and a mature, parkland-style round at Le Château.
