Golf Holiday in Thailand’s Jungle

Most golf enthusiasts, who have traveled in Thailand, might know the most popular and largest destinations, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Phuket.

Phuket is popular, but expensive, while Pattaya despite 25 golf courses have a somewhat mixed reputation. Hua Hin is in this context the most quiet and family friendly destination and with over ten golf courses – Black Mountain is the flagship, Hua Hin is the place many choose.

Very few people go north of Bangkok as it means, because of the geography, that you do not have access to the sea. However, you can experience a greener and more lush countryside and visit places that are far from the tourism epicenter.

One of these sites is Khao Yai, located one and a half hour’s drive north of Bangkok. Khao Yai National Park is in itself worth a visit. Here one can experience wild animals and wild animals (snakes) are said also to be in the rough on Kirimaya Golf Course, located on the outskirts of the national park.

Great Nicklaus design

Kirimaya Golf Course, previously known as The Country Club Khao Yai, was in 2011 elected as Thailand’s best golf course.  The course can best be described as a course which is in the middle of the jungle.

When moving around the 18 holes, one easily get the feeling of being completely alone on the golf course. The layout means that you only rarely see other players on the course.

The course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is a demanding test. Landing areas are small and if you miss the fairway you will have to face the ‘jungle’ with the risk of not being able to find the ball.

Kirimaya Golf Course is a beautiful golf course with fantastic nature. The view to the wooded hillsides and the sounds of the forest animals are all components helping to complete the experience.

The course is in great condition. The fairways are undulating while the greens are soft. On several holes you encounter small lakes or cross streams as some of the challenges. Nicklaus has ranked Kirimaya Golf Course in the top three among the golf courses Nicklaus Design has developed in Asia.

In connection with the golf course Kirimaya Resort is located. The name ‘Kirimaya’ means ‘illusion of mountain’ and Kirimaya Resort is located just at the foot of the Dongrak mountain range and on the edge of Khao Yai National Park.

Kirimaya Resort is the kind of place you come to enjoy the tranquility and be in harmony with nature. Perfect for couples or families who want to relax and enjoy a few days of peace and quiet.

After a few days in Hua Hin, Pattaya or Bangkok it is striking, the quiet of this lovely 5-star resort, which have both a pool, a delicious spa (MAYA Spa) and a very good restaurant.

With only 60 rooms you do not at any time feel overrun by other visitors. From the hotel’s Asian-decorated rooms, to the deck chairs by the pool and the restaurant which has views to the wooded hillside to the sounds of the forest clearly indicates that we are close to some of Thailand’s most beautiful and unspoilt nature.
