Tour of Ireland 7: Dublin area and the courses that appear on television

Our author, Torsten Pamp, heads for the capital region with so many famous golf courses. As always, the English translation comes first, the original Swedish manuscript follws.

Tour_of_IrelandThe Dublin area is definitely for golfers with the thickest of wallets.

Like when the Ryder Cup was played at the K-Club outside Dublin in 2006, and the fees skyrocketed. Members paid 100.000 euros in entry fee and 8000 in annual fees and the green fee was around 330 euros.

But the K-Club has its visitors. As we drive up to the clubhouse, we spot a helicopter land on the grass field next to the restaurant. A distinguished, older gentleman and an elegant woman climb out. A luxury car is driven up.

The couple drive the two hundred meters to the parking lot close to the first tee. They get out of the car, grab their golf bags and go straight to the tee and head out on the course…

K-Club currently has two 18-hole courses; the parkland course where the Ryder Cup was played and a newer, open links type of course. The Ryder Cup course is in beautiful condition and surrounded by elegant villas.

The 8th hole on the Ryder Cup course is a par-5 where your approach shot have to be played across the Liffy River.

The authentic Irish feeling we only get from the soup and triangle shaped sandwiches in the clubhouse. While accommodation in the castle hotel enhances the feeling of ultimate luxury.

As regular golf tourists, we do however find prestige courses nearby that are just as interesting and more affordable.

Runt Dublin.
