Financial services firm Deloitte gave a workshop at their new offices, The Edge Amsterdam, for the Ladies European Tour rookie class of 2015 ahead of the Deloitte Ladies Open.
The session, which took place in the innovative office building, provided the Ladies European Tour first year members with information about finance issues relevant to being a professional sportsperson on a global tour.
The session forms part of the #LETDevelops initiative which exists to promote the organisation’s aspiration for the development of golf globally.
The LET’s Development Director Mike Round commented: “We have organised a programme of training opportunities including a wide variety of educational activities for the rookies in their first year on tour. It is important to give the rookies information to ensure that their career on tour is as successful as possible.
In a survey of the LET rookies, finance was of great interest and it’s important that the players know how to manage their money as they compete in tournaments in 18 different countries around the world.
Deloitte is a strong supporter of golf in the Netherlands partnering with both the Federation and the Dutch Opens.
Wouter van Voorst, Brand and Sponsor Manager at Deloitte, said: “We are very happy to have the opportunity to contribute to the professional development of the rookies. We enjoyed discussing financial and tax related topics with the players during the workshop and wish them the best of luck in their golf careers.”
The newly opened Amsterdam offices are located just five minutes from The International Golf Club, which is hosting the Deloitte Ladies Open for the third consecutive year.
40,000 square metre
The Edge, a 40,000 square metre office building which officially opened last week, features a 15-storey atrium space full of light streaming through glass panels which is aesthetically and environmentally outstanding.
The highlights of the building include recycling of rainwater, 106 per cent solar panel powered, 30,000 ceiling sensors managing temperature, humidity and presence and an interactive shopping wall, where staff can order gourmet meals.
The LET members found the training session useful and Finnish player Marieke Voss commented: “It’s nice to know that you’re not alone on tour and everyone struggles with the same things. It was reassuring to know that and also to visit the offices, which are very cool.”
Laura Murray of Scotland added: The financial advice was very useful. It has made me realise that I need to take ownership of what I do and after this I will create a budget. That will give me more focus. I have targets that I need to hit playing wise but it will be good to have targets that I need to hit financially as well.”
