The beautiful golf and wine estate Castiglion del Boscoin Tuscany (8th hole, pictured by Kevin Murray, above) has joined the club of Best in Show winners at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021.
he winery’s newly released Brunello di Montalcino 2016 (Brunello must be aged for five years) scored 97 out of 100 points and was one of only three Italian reds to achieve Top 50 Best in Show status.
“Naturally, wine is a major talking point on the clubhouse terrace and our members are immensely proud that the estate’s wines have once again been recognized among the finest in the world,” said David Waters, General Manager of The Club at Castiglion del Bosco.
“Compared to the United States, there are relatively few golf and wine estates here in Europe, so as we start to look forward to The 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy, it’s nice to know we are putting some early points on the scoreboard – even if they are of the red wine variety.”
The Club at Castiglion del Bosco is Italy’s only private, members-only golf club and features a world-class 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf.
When designing the course, Weiskopf added a short 19th ‘Brunello Hole’ tClub at Castiglion del Bosco CdB Brunello Hole(18). It is also the setting for many fun member competitions and challenges.
Castiglion del Bosco is an historic 800-year-old estate in the UNESCO protected Val d’Orcia that spreads across 2,000 hectares (5,000 acres) and comprises organic-certified vineyards, a state-of-the-art Winery and a luxury Rosewood hotel, centered on a medieval castle ruin and exquisitely restored hilltop village.
The estate produces three Brunello wines and an appealing Rosso di Montalcino.
