St Enodoc Golf Club in Rock, north Cornwall, has premiered some dramatic drone footage to showcase its second course. The Holywell is the club’s hidden gem that lies alongside its championship Church Course. SEE VIDEO BELOW
The Holywell measures just 4,082 yards and is comprised of nine par 3s and nine par 4s. Because of that it may be regarded as a short course by today’s standards.
However, it still provides a real test of golfing skill for players of all handicaps. It requires less length and stamina than the demanding Church Course (pictured above), that measures 6,547 yards from the back tees.
This makes the Holywell ideal for beginners and youngsters just getting to grips with the game. And suitable for older golfers looking for an occasional round. That without having to deal with the challenging course elevations and scrambling required on the Church Course.
Having said that certain golfers count the par 3 15th hole on the Holywell as the toughest par 3 in Cornwall. So this second course is certainly no pushover.
The St Enodoc budget alternative
Like the Church Course, The Holywell is a full 18 holes of links-style golf with its undulating fairways and fast-paced, target greens. From the course the views over the Camel Estuary and the north Atlantic Ocean as well as the rolling hills of Cornwall are stunning.
Moreover after two years of investment by the club, the Holywell is now in the best shape it has ever been. And it’s maintained to the same high standard as the main course.
Accessible to all, there is no need for any official handicap to play the Holywell. At just £25 per head for 18 holes, it’s both affordable and great value.
The Holywell is so called in honour of an ancient ‘Holy Well’ to the left of the 12th hole. Although the history of it is somewhat clouded, one theory suggests that St Enodoc may have baptized his converts there as this area was the site of a small settlement.
