Quinta do Lago in Algarve on Portugal’s south coast has enhanced its reputation as a premier stay-and-play golf destination following the acquisition of the Magnolia hotel.
Celebrating its 45th anniversary, the Portuguese resort has added the chic Miami-style boutique hotel to its portfolio of accommodation options. Aiming for golfers and families to enjoy the temperate climate.
Situated just 15 minutes from Faro airport, Quinta do Lago boasts three championship golf courses. Laranjal Course, the NorthCourse and the highly awarded South Course (the 16th hole pictured above).
After the round, golfers should grab the oportunity to enjoy the comfort of the sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath and gym.

The 74-room Magnolia looks set to become one of the hottest destinations this winter. Boasting a vibrant and fashionable bar and a totally revamped menu under the guidance of head chef Tom Briggs. He was previously with Soho House and the Hoxton Grill in London.
In-line with clean-eating trends, the hotel’s kitchen will serve dishes such as nutritional salads, superfoods and seasonal daily options.
Seven exclusive cottages are also available at the Magnolia for added privacy. They are complete with lounge, kitchen and sun terrace to compliment the stylish main bedrooms.
Quinta do Lago aims to provide a luxury lifestyle experience. However, never forgetting that golf lies at the heart of Quinta do Lago. Proven by hosting Europe’s only Paul McGinley Golf Academy and the only TaylorMade Performance Center in Southern Europe.
Quinta do Lago set in a natural park
Set among 2,000 acres of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, there’s plenty other than golf to keep guests occupied.
The Campus sports complex is the latest addition. It gives guests the possibility to hone their skills on the multiple tennis and padel courts. Or the Bike Shed and its array of cycle tracks and scenic road routes.
The totally redesigned Quinta do Lago North Course opened in October 2014 after having been redeveloped by American golf architect Beau Welling. The redevelopment emphasized firmly on precision and strategy. And was done in close collaboration with the 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.
The par-72 Laranjal Course was designed in the grounds of an orange grove. It have been honored as Portugal’s Best Golf Course. It poses serious tests for players of all abilities.
Opened in 2008, Laranjal offers a pure golfing experience right next to the Quinta do Lago estate. The course features fairways sown with Bermuda grass, providing a challenging playing environment in a picture-perfect setting.
While Quinta do Lago South Course has become a favorite among European Tour professionals having hosted the Portuguese Open on no fewer than eight occasions.
The South Course is regularly included in Golf World magazine’s Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe. The par-72 layout calls for accurate drives and precise shots. But also rewards players for their efforts with the stunning backdrop of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
