The Heritage in Kellanard is a fairly new and impressive facility with a luxury spa, an hour’s drive from our hotel in Dublin.
A builder created the course, the hotel and a surrounding town of golf villas during the golden years.
Seve Ballesteros is still the course’s public face. He was a sounding board for architect Jeff Howes, and his private locker is still in the locker room. Here, Seve Trophy is played, so is the Irish Senior Open. Still, the green fees are modest. While the golf packages at the hotel feels like good value for money.
The course is open parkland style with few trees, slightly hilly with lots of bunkers and water. That awaits your ball in the form of ponds near the greens and streams along and across the fairways. On my visit just after the opening, the finish was among the best I’ve ever experienced with the tees allegedly at a speed between 7 and 8 on the stimp meter.

The Heritage i Kellanard är en ganska ny imponerande anläggning med spahotell i lyxklass, en timmes bilresa från hotellet i Dublin.
Bana, hotell och en omgivande villaby skapades av en byggmästare under de gyllene åren.
Seve Ballesteros är banans ansikte utåt. Han har varit bollplank åt arkitekten Jeff Howes och är den ende med eget skåp i omklädningsrummet. Här har Seve Trophy spelats, naturligtvis, liksom Irish Open senior. Ändå är greenfeen i dag ungefär som på en vanlig skandinavisk klubb-bana. Och golfpaketen på hotellet känns som rena lågpriset.

Banan är av typ öppen parkbana med ett fåtal träd, lätt kuperad med massor av bunkrar och vatten – både i dammar vid greenerna och som rinnande bäckar längs, mitt i och tvärs över fairways. När banan just hade öppnats var finishen bland det bästa jag någonsin upplevt. Tees uppgavs ha mellan 7 och 8 på stimpmetern.
